The security of industrial automation devices and networks has always been a priority for the UBIQUITY platform. With this in mind, we would like to inform you that the TLS 1.0 security protocol used by Runtime versions 1.0 to 7.9 and the Control Center is now considered insecure and we therefore recommend switching to TLS 1.2+ versions, implemented in UBIQUITY Manager and its Tools and Runtime from version 8.0 onwards.
To ensure the protection of the entire platform, we have scheduled a timetable for the obsolescence of Runtimes with version less than 8 and the Control Center desktop application, which will no longer be able to connect to our servers:
To identify devices with in the process of obsolescence:
Below are some helpful hints to assist you with this Runtime update process:
NOTE: We always recommend upgrading these systems progressively, making sure, at least in the first few upgrades, that the devices are preserved locally in order to intervene manually as alternative remote access systems are not readily available.
HMIs with WinCE, models RT/HMI25 and RT/LP/HMI30 with image 8922005A.06 or higher it is possible to remotely upgrade the Runtime to the latest available version 13.4.13. The image version can be verified by connecting via Remote Desktop, run the “regedit” command and check the “LMachine\ASEM” key.
HMI with WinCE, models RT/HMI25 and RT/LP/HMI30 with image 8922005A.05 or lower cannot update the Runtime remotely. First it is necessary to update the device image to version 8922005A.32-1 (downloadable from the Asem website HERE after login) and then you can install (even remotely) Runtime 13.4.13.
HMI with WinCE, models RT/HMI35 and RT/LP/HMI40 you can remotely upgrade the Runtime to the latest available version 13.4.13.
Routers with WinCE, models RK1x/RM1x it is possible to remotely upgrade the firmware (which includes the Runtime) to the latest available version 13.4.13. The package for manual firmware upgrade is also available in the Downloads
On systems running Windows XP, it is not possible to update the Runtime remotely. Before proceeding with the upgrade, it is required that the system be updated to Windows Service Pack 3. After that, temporarily using an alternative remote access solution or connecting locally, we suggest manually uninstalling first the bridge component (used by the old UBIQUITY Runtime) and then the old Runtime version. After these steps you can manually install UBIQUITY Runtime version 8.0.009 for XP available at this link.
on systems with Windows Vista, Windows7 and newer operating systems, although it is always recommended to keep the operating system up-to-date, there are no special requirements for this and therefore it can be installed via remote update (or manually), the latest version of Runtime available.
We want to help you keep your devices and networks secure!
For this reason, we strongly recommend that you keep your Runtimes up to date: this will allow you to take advantage of the latest security updates and features as they are released. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact our Software Technical Support.
