UBIQUITY Routers

This hardware component allows for remote access or assistance on industrial devices where machinery plants are lacking any wired connection by means of 4G modems and Wi-Fi.

The router integrates greatly into any automation system without impacting the setup of the devices included therein, since no configuration adjustment is required for them.

Once installed, you can configure and manage the router connection or create and manage any subnets through a router System Manager and UBIQUITY Manager. In fact, routers allow to set up NAT and routing rules outside the VPN.

Routers are meant for installation into appliances and are also compatible for operation with HMIs or IPCs of different brands.

Note: See ../common-concepts/Router.html for more information on this subject.

ASEM router models might differ in different properties, such as their operating system and the quantity of Ethernet ports with which they are fitted.

Note: For further information on the latest ASEM routers, see the product technical specification and related documentation provided at the link https://www.asem.it/en/products.html?_id=23.

Installation manuals are supplied with the devices.

ASEM routers automatic update procedures provide easy maintenance of the device itself.
Note: See Runtime and firmware update for further information on this subject.
Routers are fitted with LEDs for visual feedback on their status.
Note: See ../common-concepts/LEDs-visual-feedback.html for further information on this subject.

RK1x and RM1x Series routers

RK1x and RM1x Series routers are equipped with a WinCE operating system and feature the following interfaces:
  • one Ethernet WAN port for internet connection
  • one Ethernet LAN port for local area network connection
  • one isolated multistandard serial interface
  • one USB 2.0 port
  • one built-in 4G modem
  • one optionally integrated four-port Gigabit Ethernet switch
  • two digital inputs to enable remote access and power reset, and two relay outputs to notify UBIQUITY network connection and the remote access in progress.

The router can establish local interface connections (LAN) and Internet (WAN) connections, and it is equipped with a serial port (COM) supporting an MPI subnet, to which several PLCs can be connected.

Note: The gateway transforms an Ethernet data flow into an MPI data flow, and vice versa. The serial pass-trough function links a virtual serial port on the local computer and a real serial port on the device running Runtime. See Hilscher gateways and Simatic TIA Portal for further information on this subject.

RK2x and RM2x Series routers

RK2x and RM2x Series routers are equipped with a Linux operating system and feature the following interfaces:

  • one Gigabit Ethernet WAN port for internet connection
  • one or four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports for local area network connection
  • one USB 2.0 port
  • one built-in 4G modem
  • Wi-Fi
  • one isolated multistandard serial interface
  • one optionally integrated four-port Gigabit Ethernet switch
  • two digital inputs to enable remote access and power reset, and two relay outputs to notify UBIQUITY network connection and the remote access in progress.
