Requirements and setup

Control Center can be installed on the following operating systems:

  • Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit

  • Windows 10

  • Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2, 2016 and 2019

The Control Center setup verifies automatically the presence of the “.Net Framework 4.0 Client Profile” on the computer and automatically installs it in case it is missing.

During the installation, the following components are installed:

  • software file

  • a virtual network adapter

  • a virtual serial port that is used to access physical serial ports of remote devices

The installation script provides two setup options:

  • Typical

  • Custom

When selecting the “Custom” option, the setup shows you the feature list for Virtual Serial Port installation.

Both components have been completely revised from version 2.0.

To keep compatibility with Runtime versions older than 2.0, it is possible to install any support from “Custom” mode described above.

If you select to keep the support for Runtime V1.2 and older, you will be then asked to provide the COM port number to be assigned to the virtual serial port.

Hint

Control Center V1.3 and newer allow you to select the Virtual Serial Port COM number when activating the Serial pass-through feature. This also allows to easily change the COM number at any time.

This is the serial port number you need to use in all the applications that require to communicating via serial line (PLC programming software). The traffic generated by the application over the virtual COM port is automatically mapped by UBIQUITY to the physical serial port on the remote device, using the UBIQUITY VPN link.

See chapter Remote Serial Connection in this manual for specific information about how to handle Virtual Serial Port feature.

The installation adds eventually a virtual Ethernet interface named “UBIQUITY VPN”, which is visible in the network control panel. The virtual adapter installation is required if there is the need to open the VPN connection only to the device, without the access to its subnet. Standard scenarios do not require this component.

The IP address of this card is automatically handled by the Control Center. It is usually a static IP address compatible with the destination subnet that hosts the Runtime is assigned.

Hint

It is also possible to manually assign the IP address to the UBIQUITY VPN adapter. Please see later in this manual for further information.

Control Center is executed in single instance by default.

If a multiple instance execution is required, it is possible to add the parameter

<Param Name="MultisessionSupport" Value="1" />

in

C:\Users\<nome_utente>\AppData\Local\ASEM\UBIQUITY\Control Center\config.xml.

For connectivity requirements, see the chapter Connectivity.
